Adam Blythe has come a long way since he won the national junior hill climb championship back in 2005. Since then he as achieved international success on the road and track.

Blythe, who has raced in Belgium and Holland since he was nine years-old recently dropped out of British Cycling’s British Academy to pursue a career in Belgium where he is “happiest racing.”

To help his future develop Cycling Time Trials has awarded Blythe one of its scholarships for 2008.

“We are providing Adam with some financial backing to help his development towards his aim to eventually become a professional,” said CTT competitions secretary Keith Lawton.

Since first riding GHS events as a youth Blythe has become one of the country’s best junior riders. He along with his GB teammates took the European Junior Team Pursuit championships in 2006 and 2007. Other successes include the national junior criterium championship in 2005 along with individual pursuit and scratch race titles on the track.

More recently he won last year’s junior version of Kuurne-Brussells-Kuurne and the Belgian Axel Three-day, where he won overall and took two stages, the points and sprint awards. Success also came in the Under-25 Gent Six-day.

So far this season he has finished sixth in the Espoirs La Samyn event in Belgium while this weekend (16 March) he punctured and was a non-finisher.

“Adam punctured on the Kopenberg when team cars were not allowed to follow because of the narrowness of the climb. When he got help he was 10 minutes down,” said his father Mike.

“Adam is over the moon at getting help from Cycling Time Trials, he is staying with former pro Tim Harris at Westmeerbek, near Antwerp and races with the Wielerclub Des Sprinters Malderen, which is a feeder club for a pro team,” Mike added
