2012 GHS Championship

Velocity RT’s Joe Evans, and RST's Abby-Mae Parkinson are the 2012 George Herbert Stancer Memorial 10-mile champions. 

15 year-old Evans clocked 21-18 on the H10/3a course at Wickham, Newbury, Berkshire, to take the title in the Newbury RC promotion.

Evans, 11th in the 2011 GHS `10`, had already established an early advantage at five miles, going through half distance in 10-43. At that point Evans only had three seconds in hand over Ollie Wood (Sportscover-Altura).

That lead had extended to 12 seconds at the finish with  Wood finishing on 21-30, good enough for second place.

Just eight seconds slower, Joseph Fry (Welwyn Wheelers) clichéd third with 21-38. having considerably reduced his deficit of 27 seconds on Evans and 24 seconds on Wood at five miles.

The battle among the girls was much closer with two seconds between first placed 15 year-old Abbey-Mae Parkinson (RST RT), 24-55, and runner-up Sky Draper, the 16 year-old from the High Wycombe CC, 24-57. Draper had a strong second half reducing her deficit of 15 seconds at that point to those two seconds on the finishing line.

Leicestershire RC’s Charlotte Broughton took third with her 25-17.
